Yemi Osinbajo To Receive 21 Chibok Girls

osinbajo1-300x216Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is expected to receive the 21 Chibok girls who have been released by Boko Haram.

This was disclosed by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu who said that the girls’ release follows negotiations between the government and the sect which were brokered by the Red Cross and the Swiss government.

“It is confirmed that 21 of the missing Chibok Girls have been released and are in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS,” Shehu said.

“The Director-General, Mallam Lawal Daura just finished briefing the President Muhammadu Buhari. The release of the girls, in a limited number is the outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government. The negotiations will continue.

“The President welcomes the release of the girls but cautioned Nigerians to be mindful of the fact that more than 30,000 fellow citizens were killed via terrorism.

“Malam Daura wants the girls to have some rest, with all of them very tired coming out of the process before he hands them over to the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo,” he added.

President Muhammadu Buhari left the country for Germany shortly after the girls’ release.

Meanwhile, the girls are said to have been released in exchange for the freedom of four Boko Haram members.
