Monaco Disrespected The Coupe de France – Verratti

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has accused Monaco of lacking respect for the Coupe de France after the defending champions hammered their much-changed opponents 5-0 at Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Unai Emery’s men are into a third consecutive final in the competition and could win a record 11th title against Angers SCO at Stade de France in May.

Verratti, 24, was disappointed Monaco prioritised their Ligue 1 and Champions League chances though.

“If I was a Monaco player, I would be upset with club and the coach,” the Italy international told journalists in the mixed zone after the final whistle. “It is fine to rotate a little but this was exaggerated. They disrespected the Coupe de France.”

Monaco’s most senior players in the capital were reserve goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis, veteran defender Andrea Raggi, left-back Jorge and striker Valere Germain, who was also captain.

Coach Leonardo Jardim withdrew Raggi and Germain after an hour but did not utilise substitutes Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Danijel Subasic, Nabil Dirar and Almamy Toure.

Verratti’s PSG travel to face Nice in Ligue 1 on Sunday before hosting Bastia, while Monaco entertain Toulouse before Juventus visit in the Champions League.

Monaco then travel to take on Nancy in Le Championnat before their return trip to Turin.
