There are indications that the country may face another round of fuel scarcity, as members of petroleum tanker drivers threatened to go on strike, due to the seizure of their vehicles by the Lagos State government.

Some of the drivers who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune at the state secretariat, Alausa, where their vehicles were impounded, said the state government was drawing another battle line for fuel scarcity.

Corroborating the argument, the general secretary of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Worker (NUPENG), Mr Elijah Okugbo, said the government had gone too far to have been impounding the vehicles without prior dialogue with the leadership of oil workers.

It will be recalled that the government issued 48-hour ultimatum to the drivers to evacuate their vehicles from Apapa-Oshodi Expressway or face sanction, about a week ago.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that 29 vehicles had since been impounded by the government and would not be released until the owners paid towing fine.
