A group, Ndi Igbo Council for National Co-ordination (NCNC), has called on the federal government to urgently address the frequent killings of Igbos in the northern part of the country.
.
A statement by the Deputy President General of the group, Chief John Uche, said Igbos were not satisfied with being the victims of every disagreement within the partnership called Nigeria.
.
"We describe most aptly the recent carnage in northern Nigeria as blood-letting and recall with extreme sadness that with all the instances of blood- letting in Nigeria's tortured history, it is we Ndi Igbo that have paid the disproportionate price in blood.
.
The blood-letting has never been provoked by Ndi- Igbo.
.
"Ndigbo have been made the favourite scapegoats of the various ethnic political and religious clashes in the country throughout the history of the country without redress and it is feared that the horror meted out to the Igbos in the northern Nigeria may not have ended," the group stated.
.
Uche alleged that observers were convinced that the crises was political and not religious as nothing justifies the killings of Igbos in the northern parts of the country.
.
"We believe that all the tragic incidents arising from Boko Haram insurgence and barbaric killings of Igbos are a manifestation of fundamental problems concerning the terms of our association as a nation.
.
It is for this reason that we endorse the stand of numerous calls for convocation of National conference immediately to discuss our terms of living together as a nation," the statement added.
