Officials of Lagos State government and telecommunications giant, MTN early today unveiled packages for the winners of Season Six of the Street Soccer Championship, which will kick off 18 August, 2013.

Speaking at a press conference at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos Tuesday morning, Executive Secretary of the grassroots 5-A-side football tournament, Deji Aladegbemi said that winners of the competition will be given mouth-watering cash rewards, gifts and playing tour of some overseas countries.

According to him, the sponsor, MTN and the organiser would be taking one of the winners to the Aspire Sports Academy in Doha, Qatar while players of the winning team would also have the opportunity of watching live action at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup which will take place in United Arab Emirates, UAE later in the year.

He said with an expected 800 teams playing across 347 wards in the state, Lagos MTN Street Soccer Season Six promises to be exciting.

"We're featuring for the first time a U-15 junior category, which is an innovation designed to produce educated, disciplined and barrier breaking footballers for the country. This will be carried out with a tested methodology that will eradicate age cheats, which we see as the bane of sports development in Nigeria," said Aladegbemi.

"For five consecutive seasons, the Lagos State Ministry of Sports has teamed up with MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd, the largest telecommunications outfit in Africa, to deliver the MTN Lagos Street Soccer competition. As we approach Season 6 of this series, we are determined to take the property up a notch and establish Lagos Street Soccer Championships as the premier non-professional football competition in Lagos, Nigeria and the entire West Africa," he said.
