Applications are invited for a PhD research studentship in the Institute for research in Child Development (IRCD), University of East London. UK/EU and international students can apply for this studentship. The studentship is for a period of three years. Scholarship provides an annual stipend of £15,863, payment of tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and research costs. Application should be submitted till July 6th 2014. Scholarship can be taken at: UK Eligibility: Applicants must have a good honours degree in Psychology (minimum 2.1 or equivalent) and preferably an MSc in developmental cognitive neuroscience or research methods. It is also desirable that students would have prior experience working with infants in a Babylab. Applicants must also have good communication skills and a high level of written and spoken English. Where English is not the applicant's first language, a minimum IELTS Academic English score of 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in all components is required. The holder of the studentship will be expected to: -Complete their doctoral studies and submit their dissertation in a timely fashion -Prepare papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals -Participate in and contribute to research activities of the School and activities relevant to their sponsors -Undertake up to 6 hours of academic support activity per week -Be prepared to travel and work in collaborating institutions. IRCD was created in 2007 as a focus for academic child development research in East London and is concerned with research that helps to understand both the fundamental processes of development and the conditions that influence outcomes. IRCD is committed to research that allows us to understand factors that have both positive and negative influences on development from birth onwards. The successful applicant will work in this established research group within the School of Psychology at UEL and will become a member of an active and dynamic academic community. What does it cover? The studentship is for a period of three years, subject to satisfactory progress and provides an annual stipend of £15,863 (Research Council recommended rate plus £2000 for London costs), payment of tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and research costs. *Applicants from outside the UK/EU are eligible to apply for the studentship on the understanding that the difference in the cost of tuition fee is payable by the candidate.
