AFTER being partially shut against traffic for about four months, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, has finally declared the Third Mainland Bridge fully openfor use.
Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, made the declaration on Tuesday, during a brief ceremony held on the bridge, while also disclosing that the repair works carried out on eight expansion joints had been competed in full accordance with the awarded sum.
He said the repairs were completed 10 days ahead of the scheduled date of November 5, adding that there was no variation in the contract sum of N1,055,477,608.16.
The repairs, by Messrs Borini Prono Company Ltd, started on July 6 and, according to Onolememen, were 100 per cent completed.
The minister also noted that the Federal Government had kept faith on its promise to cushion inconveniences caused as a result of the partial closure of the bridge.
He commended efforts of the Lagos State government; the Com-mander, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army; the state police command, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and residents of Lagos State, in ensuring the successful completion of the project.
