FG Opens Third Mainland Bridge November 6

All sections of the Third Mainland Bridge will be opened to traffic from November 6 as scheduled by the contractor, Borini Prono, the Federal Ministry of Works saidyesterday.
The bridge would have been opened for use a week ago because work was ahead of schedule, according to the work plan made available by the contractor, but was put forward to enable the contractor conclude some aspects of the job.
The Director, South-west, Federal Ministryof Works, Ejike Mgbemena, yesterday apologised, saying: "I'm sorry to inform you of the postponement of the openingof Third Mainland Bridge. We lately discovered that the on-going pavement repair works will not be ready earlier than anticipated and this is responsible for this postponement."
Mgbemena said the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, would be in Lagos onTuesday to declare the bridge open and to thank Lagos residents for their patience.
The Lagos State Government has announced a partial diversion of traffic on the Ijora-Apapa Expressway on Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 from 8am to 11am.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr.  Kayode Opeifa,  who disclosed this yesterday after a  meeting with  stakeholders on the 27-kilometre  Blue Line Rail project from Okokomaiko to Marina, said  the diversion  is to enable the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) commence the erection of pre-stressed beams across Ijora/Apapa-Oshodi Expressway by Iganmu Bridge.
Opeifa, who said that the diversion / partial closure of the road will take place on Ijora/ Apapa Expressway inward Ijorajust before Iganmu Bridge and on Iganmu Bridge inward Ijora,  added that vehicles from Funsho Williams  Avenue, Apapa Road and Costain area as well as those from Orile Iganmu,  approaching Ijora should use Eko Bridge to link Ijora and Apapa. He however stated that movement from Apapa and Ijora towards Costain will not be affected.
