Nigeria resolve football dispute

Nigerian football's dispute was settled on Tuesday with all parties resolving to withdraw their cases from court.

Former NFA board member Dr Sam Sam Jaja, whose challenge of his disqualification from running for NPL chairman led to a court judgement in January declaring both the NFF and NPL illegal, has agreed not to pursue the enforcement of the judgement.

Ray Nnaji, a former NPL board member, who has a pending case, also agreed to withdraw his suit.

Both men will receive varying compensation from the NFF as part of the agreement.

Jaja is expected to be named as an honorary member of the NFF, his disqualification reversed and a public apology tendered to him.

For Nnaji, he will have his ban from football activities lifted, be paid 'reasonable compensation' and have his outstanding referees allowance paid by the NFF.

On their part, the NFF will not appeal the judgement handed in favour of Jaja while all parties work towards seeing that the ongoing process of proper documentation for the federation and league are completed.

Tuesday's meeting, brokered by Pius Anyim, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is expected to be the closing chapter in the long-running crisis which has stalled Nigerian football.
