News Flash - Nigerians Beware: MTNPays.com, the New MTN Scam Site

Ever since telcos began the lottery program, it has been a filled day for scammers with the creation of several websites all in a bid to lure unsuspecting people to their site under the guise of well known organizations.

A new scam site, MTNPays.com which was launched recently seem to be getting the better of some MTN subscribers who obviously are oblivious of the fact that the Company MTN is not in any way affiliated with this website.

They operate by getting subscribers to believe they have won a huge sum of money worth of airtime, usually about N50,000. They begin by sending an sms to MTN subscribers indicating that the  recipient has won the sum of N50,000 worth of airtime and that he/she needs to log on to the website(MTNPays.com) immediately in order to claim the winnings.

What makes the whole claim so fascinating is that the backdrop of the website is filled with the MTN logo, a near perfect imitation; they also send a pin to the recipient of the sms after he or she has responded to the fake message.

Most people who receive this message usually fall for the claims as soon as they receive the pin which most times comes like an actual genuine message from MTN. The whole idea is to get people to pay them N3000 worth of MTN recharge card on the scam platform.

Members of the public are hereby advised to steer clear of such messages and to contact MTN customer care immediately in order to verify such messages.
