Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, elders from the South- South geo-political zone yesterday called on President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the presidential election in 2015.

The body also condemned the Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over what they dubbed his "fanning the embers of discord and acrimony within the rank of the South-South PDP family and his challenge of President Goodluck Jonathan."

Rising from a meeting they held in Abuja, the group in a communiqué called on President Jonathan to contest the election, stressing that "you are a chosen servant of history."

The meeting was attended by Chief Edwin Clark, Austin Opara, Chibudum Uche, PDP National Vice-Chairman South/South, Dr. Steve Oru, Senators Stella Omu, Lee Meabe, Oyofo, Bassey Ewa Henshaw, Adaw Pepple, Roland Owie, Joe Ediowele, Secretary PDP, South/South, Cairo Ojougho, Igyota Amori, Ken Gbagi, Ambrose Akpanika, Ayakeme Whiskey, Ndudi Elemelu, Ndogest Nkanga.

Expressing happiness over the handling of national affairs by the President, the group insisted that; "The PDP family and indeed all South-South people shall continue to work for the retention of the Office of the President presently occupied by our son, President Goodluck Jonathan, in 2015.

"We shall vehemently resist, within the ambit of law, all attempts, covertly or overtly, to scuffle, shortchange and imperil the right of President Goodluck Jonathan, to contest the presidential elections in 2015."

They also said Jonathan should be commended for a successful two year in office and for demonstrating courage to place his record of meritorious services on public domain for Nigerians to access.

They also lent their support for the declaration of a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, saying it was the best strategy to stem the orgy of violence and reckless killings by the proscribed Boko Haram Islamic sect.

Goodluck Jonathan would definately contest for second term once his first term is over. That will surely be the case.
