Airforce Officer Faces Court Martial For Possessing 13 Bags Of Indian Hemp

The Nigerian Airforce has commenced court martial proceedings against a serving senior non-commissioned officer arrested with 13 bags of Indian hemp also known as marijuana, in Kaduna. Our correspondent in Kaduna, Chimezie Enyiocha, reports that some senior Airforce personnel witnessed the proceeding in line with the move to instil discipline in the Nigerian Armed Forces. Musa Muhammad of 303 Flying School, Kano, a Master Warrant Officer was some time ago apprehended by men of the Nigerian Army task force at Koton Karfe area, along Lokoja-Abuja road for possessing 13 bags of illicit drugs confirmed later to be marijuana by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA). At the inaugural proceeding, President of the Court Martial, Group Captain Cosmos Ozougwu, said the offence the accused is being prosecuted for is punishable under section 65, sub section 1 of the Airforce Act. The offence, according to Ozougwu, is contrary to the laws of the federation and hence the reasons for the trial session, which is to be conducted with dispatch in line with military tradition. He maintained that the cardinal principle of the armed forces legal system is that justice must be exact, exemplary and swift without compromising legal standards. The court martial process will last for three days.
