Chinua Achebe passes on

                        One of the world's most celebrated writers, Nigeria's Prof. Chinua Achebe is dead.

Prof. Achebe, the author of the classic novel "Things Fall Apart," died in a U.S hospital Thursday night, aged 82.

Confirming Achebe's death to newsmen, a spokesman to Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, Mr. Valentine Obienyem said the state will send in its reaction soonest.

"Yes, we are aware and shall send in our reaction soon," he said.

In the meantime President Goodluck Jonathan has mourned the death of Prof. Achebe describing him as a Nationalist and Cultural Icon.
