The Federal Government, represented by officials of the Ministry of Education and of the Labour and Productivity Ministry and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) will hold a meeting today (Tuesday) to discuss a way of avoiding the indefinite strike, announced by the union.
.
The President of ASUP, Comrade Chibuzor Asomuga, said that the union is demanding the withdrawal of a circular from the Ministry of Education suspending CONTISS 15 in Polytechnics.
.
He added that they are also demanding the dissolution of the governing councils of the Federal Polytechnic Oko and Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti for autocratic activities.
.
Asomugha disclosed that the union met with members of the Education committee in the House of Representatives yesterday.
.
Recall that the polytechnic lecturers gave a two week ultimatum, which expires Wednesday, to the federal government to honour an agreement reached four years ago for revamping the tertiary sub-sector or face another industrial action.
