Stephen Keshi Returns As Nigeria Coach

KesStephen Okechukwu Keshi has signed a contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as head coach of the Nigerian men’s senior national team, the Super Eagles.

Keshi, who first took charge of the Super Eagles in 2011, led the side to unexpected success at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

He also guided the team to a round of 16 finish at the 2014 Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil before his contract lapsed.

The ‘Big Boss’ then masterminded Nigeria’s ultimately futile bid to reach the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea but did so on a caretaker basis.

On Tuesday, Keshi put pen to paper on a two-year deal which runs out in 2017, bringing an end speculations about his future.

Keshi has previously managed Togo and Mali. He qualified Togo for their first and only World Cup finals appearance in 2006.

The 53-year-old trainer, who captained Nigeria’s national team for 19 years, earned 64 caps for the Super Eagles between 1981 and 1995.
