Buhari Already Told Nigerians He’s Sick – Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed says President Muhammadu Buhari has been open about his health challenges since March.

Buhari returned to Nigeria on March 10 from a 49-day medical vacation in London.

The president said at the time that he’d never been so sick in his entire life.

“The President told the nation he has never been this sick and he is going to take it easy,” Mohammed told journalists in Aso Rock on Wednesday, May 3, after the Federal Executive Council meeting which Buhari failed to attend.

“He said it from day one when he came back from the UK. So whatever is happening today is not any strange development, it is exactly what he said – that he has been advised to take it easy by his doctors and that he will soon also go back for further treatment.

“I don’t think it’s anything different from what he has said. He has been quite transparent and upfront in matters concerning his health,” he added.

Mohammed said, on April 26, following Buhari’s absence at the FEC meeting of that day, that the president would work from home because he needed to rest.

However, on April 12, Mohammed explained away Buhari’s failure to attend the meeting by saying that the president had more pressing matters to attend to.

Buhari has missed three FEC meetings since April 12, lending credence to reports that his health has deteriorated.

The president’s wife, Aisha, however said, on Tuesday, May 2, that her husband’s health challenges are not as bad as they’re being painted.
