The attention of the Bayelsa State Government has been drawn to some misleading reports by a section of the media surrounding the marriage ceremony of President Goodluck Jonathan’s foster daughter holding in Yenagoa, the State capital.
We wish to make it abundantly clear that, contrary to such unfounded stories in the media, the State’s economy is not affected, as people have been going about their activities without hindrance.
It is, therefore, not true that state and in particular, Yenagoa, has been shut down because of the event.
The only place so affected is the Kpansia market, which is a traditional Saturday market and incidentally it is situated at the heart of the venue of the Today’s marriage ceremony.
It is only reasonable to close the market in the best interest of all concerned. It does not make any sense to have both the market and the ceremony go on at the same time. This would be chaotic, with inherent inconveniences.
Also, the decision to stop construction work on major roads in Yenagoa Today is mainly for security reasons and to allow a better flow of traffic along the routes leading to the venue of the marriage, because of the large turnout of dignitaries and this should be understandable.
The frenzied reports with various slants to the wedding ceremony are exaggerated. It is obviously not true that the entire economy of the State has been shut down, because of the wedding ceremony as widely reported.
