Job Title: Database Consultant (Greenplum)

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
• The Database Administrator will have responsibility and ownership of the assigned database application.
• Responsible for accepting the database design, agreeing on database management system acquisitions, performing or checking sizing results, acquiring requisite system software and system/storage devices, performing data change control, installing upgrading database software, implementing production/test and staging databases.
• Typically maintains a dictionary or repository.
• Assists operations staff in the setup of the required operations environment for running the system.
• Will assist in the provision of agreed service levels to the user /business, monitoring the system (deriving statistics for usage, performance, problems, utilization, etc).
• Ensures integrity of data in the database as per defined database constraints and helps to maintain and define such constraints with active participation from development groups.
• Administers and implements security integrity controls.
• Follows and adheres to policies, procedures and standards relating to database management.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Analyzes issues and uses judgment to make decisions. Escalates non-standard problems or issues.
• Maintains database objects, dictionaries. Maintains lists, control tables (and records) and uses pre-defined coding schemes necessary to process data with active help from development/user groups and senior database administrators and modifies this documentation. Conducts data validation checks using a pre-defined methodology.
• May have responsibility for administering several less complex aspects in a developmental project.
• Develop, upgrade, and maintain small to medium size database systems.
• Perform security management by auditing and maintaining roles, privileges, and user profiles.
• Consistently performs event management by acting on alerts and notifications, and following pre-defined operational fixes.
• Responsible for DBA responsibilities of the assigned system. Perform environment builds and refreshes.
Desired Skills & Experience:
SKILLS:
• Knowledge and experience of Greenplum products/technologies
• Knowledge of Unix, Windows NT/2000/98, Internet Security, Oracle ERP.
• Communication skills.
• Understanding of business environment.
• Knowledge of job associated database/software/documentation.
Profile Requirements:
• 4 – 5 year college degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent
• Workign experience of Greenplum products/technologies
• 5-7 years of experience working in an Oracle, Informatica, UNIX production data warehousing environment as a Data Warehouse developer
• 5-7 years of experience with Oracle databases (10g or higher preferred) and expertise in SQL and PL/SQL programming and performance tuning on UNIX
• Working on MPP database as IBM Netezza or Oracle Exadata a plus
