The Foundation for Urban and Regional Studies (FURS), a charity associated with the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research offers fellowship for Africans in urban studies at University of Cape Town in South Africa. The Fellowship is open to any scholar of recent postdoctoral standing who is a citizen of an African country (excluding the Republic of South Africa). Eligibility: -The Fellowship is open to any scholar of recent postdoctoral standing who is a citizen of an African country (excluding the Republic of South Africa) and who would find the ACC a congenial work environment for intellectual reflection, scholarly engagement and debate, and writing. Preference will be given to scholars whose work relates to cities of the global south, and to Africa in particular.

-Candidates must have an excellent educational record, showing outstanding performance in undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses and research degrees.

-have been awarded a PhD at the time of application but not more than 5 years ago.

-have research expertise in the field of urban and regional studies as demonstrated by a completed doctoral thesis and/or published or forthcoming books, or articles in refereed journals.

-have demonstrable ability to present research findings effectively to fellow professionals at national and international conferences or in professional research seminars.

-have a coherent plan of research for the duration of the Fellowship, which can either be the development of doctoral work or an entirely new topic which promises to make a valuable contribution to the field of urban and regional studies.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of any Africa country excluding the Republic of South Africa ( Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia and Zimbabwe) can apply for this Fellowship.

Scholarship Description: The Foundation for Urban and Regional Studies (FURS), a charity associated with the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, wishes to appoint a post-doctoral Research Fellow, for the calendar year 2014. The Fellowship will be based in the African Centre for Cities (ACC) at the University of Cape Town and is for a period of twelve months.
