Title: Newcastle University Business School Full-time PhD Studentship
Post by: MyInfoStride on Oct 06, 2009, 01:28 PM
Newcastle University Business School is offering a three-year, full-time PhD studentship for a student starting their studies in the academic year 2009/10.

Applications may be in any research area covered by the school.  It is expected, however, that the holder of the studentship will be part of one of the formal research groupings within the school. Applications are therefore particularly welcome in the areas covered by the following research centres and groups:

• KITE (Centre for Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Enterprise)
• ESHER (Economics of Safety, Health, Enterprise and Risk)
• AGE (Accountability, Governance and Ethics)
• SERU (Small Enterprise Research Unit)
• MOST (Management of Operations, Strategy and Technology)
• QREF (Quantitative Research in Economics and Finance)
• CAMH (Cultures, Accounting and Management History)

Requirements

You should have a good Honours degree (first-class or upper-second-class Honours) in an area related to your proposed field of study. It would be an advantage if you also had, or expected to receive by Autumn 2009, a Master's-level qualification at 'credit' or 'distinction' level in a relevant subject area.

Award Value

The studentship will cover PhD fees at the UK/EU rate (£4,195 in 2009/10) and a level of subsistence equal to that provided by ESRC studentships (£13,290 in 2009/10).  International students may also apply for this award but would need to source additional funding to cover the difference between UK/EU and international fees.

As part of a structured package of development, the holder of the studentship will also have the opportunity to undertake a small amount of teaching within the school. Payment for this will be at an hourly rate (currently £26.96), which will be in addition to the annual studentship.

How to Apply

You must complete the University's postgraduate application form (http://www.ncl.ac.uk/postgraduate/apply/applicationforms/), selecting 'PhD Newcastle University Business School (full time) - Business' as the programme of study and inserting the reference number NUB05.  Only mandatory fields need to be completed but a full and detailed CV, an outline research proposal of around 1,000 words, and a personal statement of around 500 words setting out your reasons for applying.

For guidelines for producing a reaserch proposal, click here (http://www.ncl.ac.uk/hss/postgrad/research/Guidelines.pdf).
Closing date for applications:  16 October 2009

Informal enquires about the studentship may be made to the school's Director of Research, Professor Stephen Procter's email address (s.j.procter@ncl.ac.uk).
