Applications are invited for Fulbright foreign language teaching assistant program (FLTA) sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State (ECA). FLTA program is a non degree program for young Thai teachers of English or in training to become teachers of English to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States while strengthening the instruction of foreign language at U.S. colleges and universities for nine months. The application deadline is June 17, 2013.

Study Subject(s): FLTA fellows may teach up to two classes and are required to enroll in at least two courses per semester, one of which must be in U.S. studies. The remaining coursework must relate to their careers in English language teaching. FLTA fellows will also be expected to facilitate cultural events, language clubs and language tables.

Scholarship can be taken at: USA

Eligibility:

-be a Thai citizen in good health;

-be teachers of English at Thai universities or secondary schools.

-possess the equivalence of a U.S. Bachelor's degree.

-be between at least 21 and no more than 29 years old by October 1, 2013;

-be physically present in Thailand at the time of interview;

-have a TOEFL score of no less than 213 (CBT) or 550 (paper-based) or 79-80 (IBT) or 6.0 (IELTS) on a test taken within two years prior to the date of application; (For TOEFL examination, please directly visit website www.toefl.org for more information)

-must return to Thailand upon completion of the nine-month program. The Program will NOT support any extension requests for applicants; and

-demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity and professionalism.

-be disqualified if plagiarism is found in application.

Scholarship Description: The Thailand – U.S. Educational Foundation (Fulbright) announces competition for the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA), a non-degree program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State (ECA). The FLTA Program invites applications from young Thai teachers of English or in training to become teachers of English to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States while strengthening the instruction of foreign language at U.S. colleges and universities for nine months. FLTA Program has a tremendous multiplier effect in the U.S. and in the home countries of the FLTA fellows. U.S. universities benefit from the presence of a native foreign language speaker on their campuses. FLTA fellows provide teaching assistance, by serving in various capacities, which may include teaching up to two courses per semester, and typically facilitate cultural events and language clubs.

Number of award(s): The program is extremely selective -in previous years, six to seven grants have been made after hundreds of applications were received and reviewed. It is anticipated that three of the grants this year will be awarded in the hard sciences, although the American Center reserves the right to revise all arrangements as necessary.

Duration of award(s): Program is offered for nine months.

What does it cover? : All FLTA fellows receive a monthly stipend, health insurance and travel support. U.S. host institutions provide tuition waivers to support the required coursework.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on the candidates' leadership skills, ability to motivate students to learn, and interest in teaching their native language and culture to U.S. students

Notification: Candidates notified of final selection results and U.S. host institution(s) of successful candidate(s) by March/April, 2014.

How to Apply: The completed application and required documents can be sent by mail or hand delivered to the Foundation. The application set must be accompanied by:

a) The completed application form and 5 photocopies of the original application

b) 6 photocopies of university transcript(s)

c) 6 photocopies of eligible TOEFL score report

d) 3 letters of recommendations in a sealed envelope using the form attached in the application.
