Job Title: Exploration Manager

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Company: Aspen Energy Nigeria Ltd.

Education:  – BSc Geology/ Geosciences or related.  – A Post Graduate degree would be an added advantage.   

Experience: Minimum of 15 years relevant experience with at least Eight of those years in a management role within the Oil and Gas industry.

Purpose:

•   This position focuses on maintenance of exploration assets with the brief of enhancing the company's exploration success and by growing the portfolio through successful upstream ventures.

•   Designs and approves exploration work programmes and budgets and is responsible for setting and meeting key performance indicators.

•   The Exploration Manager acts as an Advisor to the Chief Operating Officer on Exploration and Production activities, and also team up with other Senior business leaders to ensure alignment of the responsibilities as indicated below, to achieve the strategic corporate vision of the organization with year on year delivery of business targets.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

•   Overall responsibility for Exploration & New Ventures activities including but not limited to reviewing and prioritizing Exploration projects and setting a strategic Exploration direction for the Organization.

•   Development of the Company's exploration portfolio through integrated geophysical and geological interpretation, mapping and evaluation of the Basin, and other basins as required, with a focus on the generation and development of exploration plays, leads and prospects for drilling. Performs 2D and 3D seismic interpretation and analysis using appropriate, state-of-the-art techniques to provide solutions for the organization.

•   Preparation of pre-drill and post-drill geological and geophysical documentation and data analysis, and provision of support and monitoring during drilling operations.

•   Evaluation of new venture opportunities as required, attend data reviews, and provide reports, analysis and advice to the leadership team and to carry out uncertainty, risk and oil field economics while providing geophysical input to multi-disciplinary projects.

•   Budgetary responsibility and management of exploration team and also provide geologic support to new ventures activity elsewhere on the offshore or onshore operational activities in Nigeria or as part of growth and expansion strategy within Africa as and when required to support business needs.

•   Work closely with other geoscientists to ensure that learnings are incorporated into assessments of field development activities while ensuring that studies are adequately documented and that interpretive products are readily available in an ever-greened GIS database and take a lead role in prospectivity assessments of bid rounds, farm-in and acreage acquisition opportunities.

•   Identification of new play concepts, leads and prospects and make recommendations for further studies and acreage capture while actively scout for new opportunities, including participation in relevant conferences & industry events.

•   Generation of Oil and Gas reserves through scientific and cost effective exploration, to support the corporate business goals and growth objectives of the company, and its strategic competitiveness within the upstream sector of the Oil and Gas industry.

•   Directs and supervises the activities of assigned personnel. Performs supervisory functions at the level established by Management for the position.

•   Directs and manages exploration activities through regular field visits and close communications with senior staff. Ensuring safe and cost effective operations and also reviews exploration reports developed by subordinates for submission to executive and DPR and other regulatory bodies.

Competencies Required:

•   Minimum 15 years Exploration and Production experience in Geology and Geophysics, Seismic Interpretation Stratigraphy, Proficient in Basin Modelling, Quantitative Interpretation and Attribute Analysis Basic Knowledge of relevant software programs.

•   Strong background in reviewing, providing technical expertise and business guidance on exploration and development projects at a strategic level.

•   Proficient in delivering technical presentations to internal staff and to clients and work within an integrated team to deliver a common goal.

•   Recommendation of new assets by evaluating Exploration opportunities and their added value and supervising the team of geoscientists in evaluation of New Ventures.

•   Experienced in managing budgets, management of exploration and technical teams and proven success in previous projects is vital.

•   Effective team player, leader and communicator that is results driven, but places high value on safety, the environment and regulatory compliance, and must be operationally proficient in managing onshore/offshore production operations and surface facilities.

•   Knowledge of exploration processes from play fairway analysis to prospect maturation, volumetric assessment, risk assessment and the synthesis of diverse regional datasets.

•   Familiarity with Landmark, Petrosys and Petrel interpretation software would be highly advantageous

Our Client, a leading Nigerian independent integrated energy company, currently playing in the downstream sector of the Petroleum Industry now wishes to set up an E&P Company with the aim of acquiring, developing and producing oil & gas assets safely and efficiently for the benefits of all stakeholders. The company aspires to grow in Nigeria and rapidly expand to the Gulf of Guinea, South and East Africa over the next ten years.
