Title: OAU Hosts Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institution

The Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPT) is a conception of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to train and develop human resources of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The Training was sponsored by NCC, anchored by Digital Bridge Institute, (NCC Training Institute).

The ADAPTI training was held at Computer Building, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State from 14th May – 18th May, 2012. A total of 105 participants from 5 institutions within these specified areas were trained during the period.

ADAPT OBJECTIVES/RATIONALE
This includes but is not limited to:
•   Developing ICT skills among Nigerians through capacity building of Senior Staff of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.
•   Creating and sustaining ICT professional development in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions and consequently creating ICT proficient graduates and workforce.
•   Creating framework for maximum utility of ICT and by so doing repositioning the Nigerian economy.
•   Tackle computer phobia often observed among some staff of tertiary institutions.

The Opening ceremony commenced at about 10:00am at the Computer Building Centre. It was anchored by the Centre Coordinator (Mrs. Adeyemi M. Taiwo of DBI), who in his welcome address conveyed the greetings of the DBI management to the participants and gave a brief overview of the Digital Bridge Institute and the objectives of the ADAPTI training. The Centre Coordinator introduced the instructors for each of the classes and asked participants to ensure that their correct information was given to guide against any form of difficulties at the end of the programme. Tea break and Lunch were served to participants every day of the Training.

The closing ceremony took place at the Computer Building, anchored the Vice President, Admin & Operations, (Dr. Popoola Adedotun) of DBI. Participants commended the Institute for the quality of training received. The programme came to an end with the award of certificates to participants by the Vice President (A & O) DBI.
