University of Trento Italy has announced application for admission into funded PhD in its School of International Studies with interests in the following areas: International Law, International and EC Labour Law, European Union Law, Comparative Legal Studies, International Criminal Justice, Transnational Crime, European Political, Economic and Monetary Integration, International Trade and Economic Development, International Political Economy, EU Public Policy,  Comparative Public Policy, Multi-level Governance, Peace-building and Conflict Resolution, Post-1945 International and European History.

The programme offers a limited number of full scholarships renewable for three years subject to satisfactory academic appraisal. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, meaning that they will be offered to the top candidates of the final ranking.

Admission Requirements

Applications will be accepted from candidates, regardless of gender, age and nationality, who have graduated with excellent marks from a masters course, a four year Italian laurea, or an equivalent programme in one of the disciplines comprising international studies (economics, history, law, political science, political philosophy, sociology). Candidates from other disciplinary backgrounds may also apply, provided that their research project clearly falls within the field of international studies.

Language Requirements

The programme is conducted entirely in English and an excellent working knowledge of that language, including a proven writing ability, is an indispensable requirement for admission. Foreign students are required to obtain a working knowledge of the Italian language.

Applications

Applications must include:
•   photocopy of the applicant's identity card or passport
•   degree certificate (applicants who hold a foreign degree should attach their degree certificate(s) and grade transcript(s) both in the original language and in English)
•   curriculum vitae in English
•   research proposal (max 5 pages/2500 words) in English, in one of the areas studied in the International Studies programme, including a short statement (max. 500 words) outlining their reasons for undertaking doctoral research and for choosing International Studies at the University of Trento
•   certificate(s) attesting the knowledge of the English language at least C1 level (e.g. IELTS score 7, minimum band score of 6.5 on each of the 4 modules of the academic version; Cambridge CAE or CPE (minimum grade B); TOEFL IBT minimum score of 100; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic minimum score 76), in case English is not the candidate's mother tongue or if the candidate has not graduated from a BA or MA programme entirely taught in English.

Please note that the TOEFL code control of the school of international studies is 6286.

Applications may include:
•   two letters of recommendation in English or Italian from experts in the doctoral research areas. The letters must be sent by the referees using one of the following ways

o   by fax to the School of International Studies number +39 0461 283152;

•   copies of (selected) publications
•   any other qualifications such as international examinations (GRE or equivalent)
