Job Description:  – The Turbine Specialist is the technical expert on large rotating mechanical equipment, including compressors, gas & steam turbines.  – Oversees the EPC contractor's production of the required large rotating equipment deliverables within project budget and schedule.  – Ensures that the Project's requirements, as detailed in the Technical Specifications, for all large rotating equipment are met.  – Assists with all aspects large rotating equipment selection, design, installation, commissioning, and start-up planning.  – Facilitates interfaces among the Lead Engineer, DES / EMDC Functions, and the EPC contractor's organization with respect to large rotating equipment issues.

Responsibilities and duties:

• Provide overall large rotating equipment technical leadership and expertise

• Coordinate DES / EMDC Facilities engineering team members' involvement in large rotating equipment activities, including interaction with EPC contractor's large rotating equipment personnel

• Prepare and submit monthly progress data, including narratives, charts, graphs, etc. on large rotating equipment issues to the Lead Engineer

• Provide large rotating equipment input for Hazardous Operations (HAZOPS) reviews

• Provide large rotating equipment input for Risk Management activities, as appropriate

• Review Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) for safe and operable large rotating equipment features

• Advise the EPC contractor's large rotating equipment activities with respect to: – Equipment data sheet completeness and accuracy – Large Machinery engineering studies and analyses – Inspection and test plans, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Integration Tests (SITs) – Compliance with design methods and safety factors to be used in design of project – Field verifications and field information gathering trips

• Steward the EPC contractor's large rotating equipment specification, selection, testing, installation, commissioning, and start-up activities including: – Recommended deliverables and labor hour estimate for large rotating equipment work – Measurement and reporting of physical progress – Preparation of the technical specifications to be used for large rotating equipment – Review of squad check drawings and other deliverables as required for inter-discipline design coordination – Review of vendor data for compliance with project specifications – Review of vendor data for completeness as required for large rotating equipment design and fabrication – Procurement of large rotating equipment including preparation of specifications, bid evaluations, bid tabulations, bid recommendations, etc. – Development of field installation plans and procedures for large rotating equipment – Development of commissioning and start-up plans and procedures – Transportation and transportation fatigue analyses as required – Contribution to weight control reports for all large rotating equipment

Job Requirements:

• Thorough knowledge of: – Large rotating equipment design (compressors, gas & steam turbines), fabrication, transportation, commissioning, and start-up principles, theories, and concepts – Applicable codes, standards, and trade practices – COMPANY practices, processes, and expectations with respect to large rotating equipment

• Thorough knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of large rotating equipment design analyses hardware and software

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering

• 15+ years of closely related professional engineering experience, 10+ years of which should be at the Senior Rotating Engineer level

• 5+ years as Lead Rotating Equipment Engineer on a large project

• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc.

• Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with project management, contractors, and sub contractors
