Petro-Canada Scholarships at University of Aberdeen, UK

Petro-Canada, a leading Canadian oil and gas company with international interests, is offering five scholarships under the Petro-Canada Emerging Leaders Programme. Students commencing their second year of any undergraduate degree programme in the School of Engineering in September 2010 are eligible to apply for a scholarship under the Petro-Canada Emerging Leaders Programme.

Please note that any number of scholarships can be applied for; however priority will be given to students not already in receipt of a scholarship. Students are not able to hold more than one corporate scholarship at any one time.

Each successful applicant will receive £1,000 at the beginning of their second year of study, then £2,000 per annum for the rest of their undergraduate degree programme.
Students undertaking a MEng degree programme will receive £1,000 for their second year of study, and £2,000 per annum for years three, four and five.

Students undertaking a BEng degree programme will receive £1,000 for their second year of study, and £2,000 per annum for years three and four.

You should note that only applicants domiciled in the UK and classified as paying Home Fees OR applicants normally domiciled in the UK but temporarily living outside the UK and classified as paying Home Fees are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

The scholarship will be confirmed annually, for each year of undergraduate study.

However, the scholarship will lapse if the scholarship recipient ceases to study within the School of Engineering or leaves the University of Aberdeen. Where a student is required to repeat a year because they failed to reach the academic requirements, payment will not be paid for the repeat year and resumption of the scholarship will be based on individual circumstances and will be at the discretion of the Head of School of Engineering. The scholarships can only be held by students of the University - they cannot be transferred to another institution.

•   Mentoring from Petro-Canada staff
•   A guaranteed interview for paid summer work placements

A Scholarship Committee comprising the Head of School of Engineering, nominated course leaders, and a representative of the Development Trust will consider the applications, shortlist the candidates and make the awards. In making the decision, the selection panel will take into account your educational background and achievements, other relevant information given in your application form, personal statement, and the statement from your referee.

The University will award the above scholarships to applicants who have good academic potential, and who are likely to be successful in their chosen degree course.

The Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and personal characteristics. Academic merit will be judged on first year academic performance and potential. In respect of personal characteristics, applicants should be able to demonstrate that they:
•   Are enthusiastic, highly motivated and
determined to succeed academically and professionally;
•   Have a strong commitment to self-development and take a pro-active and committed approach to their education;
•   Possess good communication & interpersonal skills;
•   Have an awareness of and interest in the energy industry.
