English Language Requirements

For most courses and programmes taught in English the language requirement is set to the equivalence of English studies at secondary level in Sweden, English course B. For some courses the requirement is set to the lower level, English course A.

If your secondary school qualifications in English are not considered to meet these requirements, you must submit the official results from an internationally test or examination, such as Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency.

Minimum test results to meet requirements:

IELTS
- Academic Training
For course B: An overall mark of 6.0 and no section below 5.0
For course A: An overall mark of 5.0 and no section below 4.5

TOEFL
- Paper-based
For B: Mark 4.0 (scale 1-6) in the written test and a total score of 550
For A: Mark 4.0 (scale 1-6) in the written test and a total score of 500

- Computer-based
For B: Mark 4.0 (scale 0-6) in the essay rating and a total score of 213
For A: Mark 4.0 (scale 0-6) in the essay rating and a total score of 173

- Internet-based
For B: Mark 17 of (scale 0-30) in the written test and a total score of 79
For A: Mark 17 of (scale 0-30) in the written test and a total score of 61

All TOEFL results must be sent straight from the ETS with the institutional code 9520.


English Language Test Exemptions (Master's Degree Programmes)

Some students may be exempt from submitting formal test evidence. These are:

•   Students who have a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, according to the latest edition of International Handbook of Universities.
•   Students who have a Bachelor's degree (a Swedish Kandidatexamen or equivalent academic qualifications) with English as the major subject.
•   Students who have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or Technology from India or Pakistan.
•   Students who have 30 HE credits from a Nordic country and the language of instruction of the course/programme/university is English.
