The Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program within the Policy and Global Affairs Division of the National Academies is designed to engage its Fellows in the analytical process that informs U.S. science and technology policy.  Fellows develop basic skills essential to working or participating in science policy at the federal, state, or local levels. 

Eligibility:
•   Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars and those who have completed graduate studies or postdoctoral research in any social/behavioral science, medical/health discipline, physical or biological science, any field of engineering, law/business/public administration, or any relevant interdisciplinary field within the last five years are eligible to apply.
•   The program is open to all US and non-US citizens who meet the eligibility criteria. Non-US citizens must be currently enrolled in a US university and have proof of holding a valid J-1 or F-1 status or an Employment Authorization Document (EAD/OPT). The National Academies cannot sponsor a visa.  Students must provide copies of immigration documents upon acceptance to the program.

Steps to Apply Online:
1.   Review Meet Former Fellows, FAQs, and the Application Form. Begin thinking about who you will ask for a reference(s). References may be submitted in advance of the application form.
2.   Click on the "Divisions" listed in the Fellowship Opportunities Chart, explore the "units" within each Division, and then decide what opportunities are right for you.
3.   Fill out the Application Form.
4.   Request that at least one professor/mentor/adviser fill out a Reference Form on your behalf.  Reference(s) can be submitted in advance of the application and are valid indefinitely.

Time Frame:
For the year 2011, the Fellowship Program will comprise two, 12-week sessions. There will be no summer session in 2011.
•   Winter/Spring : January 24-April 15
•   Fall: August 29 through November 18

An extension of the fellowship period beyond the official term may or may not be an option.  Extensions are determined on a case-by-case basis midway through the program.  Fellows may be compensated at the current weekly grant/stipend level for the extension period.

Application Deadlines:
•   Winter/Spring session:  OCTOBER 15th
•   Fall session:  MAY 1st
