Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Cameroon in Response to the Flood Disaster

TOKYO, Japan, November 7, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- 1. On October 28, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 10 million yen (tents) to the Republic of Cameroon, upon its request, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response the flood disaster.

2. In Cameroon, flood damage occurred in late September in Extreme North Region still remains, and according to international organizations reports, over 10,000 victims are still living in the open air or lodging in temporary dwellings, while a lot of houses and farmlands were severely affected.

3. In response to the request by the Government of Cameroon, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for supporting the victims as well as in light of friendly relations between Japan and Cameroon.
