Title: SAFe Think Bursary Programme for South African/Lesotho Students, 2014/15

French government in partnership with South African think tanks is offering full bursaries for South African or Lesotho students. These SAFe Think Bursaries are allocated for the duration of a French academic year, i.e. from September 2014 to June 2015, either for the first (M1) or for the second (M2) year of a Master programme. The full bursaries include annual tuition fees, round-trip airfare, health insurance, a monthly stipend towards living expenses and Schengen visa fees. The application deadline is 24th March 2014.

Study Subject(s): Bursaries are awarded in the field of political, human and social sciences and international relations.

Course Level: Bursaries are available for pursuing master degree at a French University.

Scholarship can be taken at: France

Eligibility:

-Citizenship of South Africa or Lesotho

-Bachelor's or Honour's degree (depending on academic year the student is enrolling for), completed or to be completed by the time the student would depart for France.

-At least two selected French institutions of the candidate's choice and one South African partner Think Tank by which the application is endorsed (cf. partner Think Tanks on p. 2)

-Major field of study: political, human and social sciences; international relations

-Knowledge of the French language is not required (depending on the study program

applied for)

Scholarship Open for International Students: Students of South Africa or Lesotho can apply for this SAFe Think Bursary.

Scholarship Description: The SAFe Think programme seeks to fund exceptional students wishing to undertake a Master's degree at a French University. It was launched in 2010 with the view of strengthening the connections between South African research institutes and their French counterparts. By assisting academic partners in establishing sustainable cooperation, the French government aims to facilitate the integration of South African research and policy-oriented institutions into French, European and francophone African scientific networks. Bursaries are allocated for the duration of a French academic year, i.e. from September 2014 to June 2015, either for the first (M1) or for the second (M2) year of a Master programme. The duration of the grant is one year, once renewable should the student elect to continue with the Master 2.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on the following criteria:

-Academic achievement

-Motivation

-Coherence of application

-Previous practical activities or experience in the relevant academic or professional field

How to Apply: Applications are to be submitted via e-mail to one of partner Think Tanks. Students are expected to submit the following (if e-mailed in separate PDF files only, clearly marked):

-Fully completed and signed application form (please indicate up to three French Higher Education Institutions)

-Motivation letter (1-2 pages)

-Curriculum vitae (1-2 pages)

-Copy of South African passport (if you do not have a valid passport, a copy of your South African ID. Should you be awarded a bursary, it remains your responsibility to obtain a passport in time)

-Copy of all degree certificates and academic transcripts

-Acceptance letter from a university in France (if you have already been accepted) or proof that you have started the application process to at least two universities.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is 24th March 2014.
