Twitter has launched @EventParrot (http://twitter.com/eventparrot), a new service that sends breaking news directly to users. Confirmed by Twitter designer Paul Stamatiou (https://twitter.com/Stammy/status/388351555138625536), the account—which has been verified—is an official Twitter experiment.

Similar to the company's other experiment, @MagicRecs (http://twitter.com/magicrecs), which recommends personalities to connect with, @EventParrot sends updates via direct messages, but only to followers of the account. The former, however, also sends follow suggestions as push notifications (http://readwrite.com/2013/09/24/twitter-follower-recommendations-magicrecs#feed=/search?keyword=twitter+experiment&awesm=~ojUzd1l5qQt7nQ) to Twitter's mobile app users. It's not clear yet whether the latter will follow suit.
