JOB DESCRIPTION:

•   The IT Business Continuity Specialist reports to the Head of Information Risk Management and will provide leadership and direction on all aspects of Business Continuity implementation – shaping, influencing and delivering the overall strategy for Business Continuity, in line with the organization's group strategy, policy and standards.

•   S/he will be required to provide detailed specialist business continuity advice to a range of critical business units and must be fully conversant with business continuity management strategies, risk assessment and planning techniques to ensure that businesses are recoverable in the event of a disaster.

•   The ideal candidate would therefore have detailed knowledge of current best practice in the business continuity industry and must have the ability to produce clear and concise reports in a timely and cost-effective manner.

•   In collaboration with the Information Technology Services (ITS) Systems Support team, the successful candidate will also monitor, assess, and fine-tune the IT business continuity and disaster recovery program, perform network penetration tests, application vulnerability assessment scans and risk audit reviews.

•   This is a senior opening which provides an opportunity to work with a team of talented technical skills in transforming a leading Emerging Markets Operations in the Financial Services sector, positioning it for growth and leadership within its region, by actively working to achieve the enterprise contingency planning goals of the establishment.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION:

The successful candidate will be expected to have aptitudes, skills, knowledge and experience on the following areas:

•   Full knowledge of business continuity management strategies, risk assessment and planning techniques.

•   Experience developing and managing Business Continuity Plans

•   Proven experience in applying all aspects of business continuity practices (i.e. Risk Assessment, Business Impact Analysis, Recovery Planning), preferably within the Financial Services sector.

•   Extensive experience of working with business continuity planning software.

•   Extensive experience in the creation of concise reports as well as the analysis and presentation of complex data.

•   Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

•   Experience in designing and delivering Disaster Recovery/ Business Continuity training to ensure best practice across board.

•   Detailed knowledge of current best practice in the business continuity industry.

•   Act as an internal consultant, providing technical knowledge and independent challenge on all aspects of business continuity management with an ability to influence key decision-makers.

•   Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

•   Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

•   Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.

•   Ability to work within a collaborative environment.

•   Project Management (PMP) and ITIL certifications highly desirable

•   A good bachelor's degree in Science, Electronic Engineering or any related discipline.(B.Sc degree in Computer Science, Engineering discipline, Mathematics or Physics will be a distinct advantage)

•   A minimum of 5 years experience developing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuation programs within an enterprise environment.

•   Experience within the Financial Services sector will be a distinct advantage

•   Experience in managing/working with senior stakeholders will be a distinct advantage

JOB FUNCTION:

•   Conduct exercises to test plans, procedures and systems to ensure that recovery procedures and strategies are effective.

•   Analyze and recommend possible disaster preparedness solutions using established Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning practices.

•   Facilitate the development of plans to be utilized in the event of a disaster, to ensure the continuity of critical business functions and minimize information loss.

•   Coordinate the development of technology recovery plans that outline the procedures required to recover applications and systems following a disaster.

•   Document procedures, standards and guidelines for achieving disaster recovery and business continuity based on compliance requirements and knowledge of best practices.

•   Conduct regular risk assessments to determine potential business impacts and implement necessary mitigants.

•   Manage and coordinate the preparation and implementation of Business Continuity plans

•   Implement Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity procedures including change control processes.

•   Maintenance of the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans to include 'lessons learned' from mock test or simulations

•   Ensure appropriate Incident Response and Crisis Management structures are in place to manage any serious incidents

•   Manage the rehearsal program for testing the plans in accordance with the requirements, reporting on the outcome of such testing.

•   Manage Communication of the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans to the appropriate resources within the organization.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

•   The post holder will be expected to work actively to achieve enterprise contingency planning goals within a set of resource constraints. S/he will need to:

•   Have the ability to think logically and analyse complex situations for effective, sometimes out of the box solutions.

•   Work with all stakeholders to develop strategic solution options and delivery plans.

COMMUNICATING WITH OTHERS:

•   The Business Continuity Specialist will be expected to have excellent communication skills and experience in working with other members of the business. The following points illustrate this:

•   Communication and visibility of all critical issues and their status.

•   Creation of concise and clear business continuity plans

•   Provision of timely feedback and proper documentation for all approved procedures and guidelines.

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT:

•   The operational scope of the post holder is underscored by the following functions:

•   Develop Safeguards and Business Recovery Plans and Procedures governing the remote

Business Offices and operations associated with the organization.

•   Ensure Corporate Asset Protection procedures cover critical Business Resources located in various office sites.

•   Safeguard data processing operations by identifying potential problem areas and single points of failure that may result in interruptions to critical data processing operations.

•   Develop and implement Disaster Recovery, Data Sensitivity, Library Management, Back-up and Disaster Recovery plans and procedures.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT:

•   The post holder will need good people skills including:

•   Build and maintain relationships with the overall team and stakeholders.

•   Coach, mentor, appraise and develop team members

REQUIREMENTS:

•   5 or more years experience developing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuation programs within an enterprise environment.

•   3 or more years experience in leading technical teams

•   Project Management (PMP) certification

•   ITIL certification and conversant with ITIL service standards.
