Purpose of the position:

The position is aimed at strengthening of laboratory services in Nigeria, contributing to achieve country targets for increased TB detection among persons living with HIV (PLHIV) in Nigeria, using GeneXpert MTB/RIF testing as an initial diagnostic test. This position will primarily focus on the roll-out and quality use of GeneXpert MTB/RIF testing in Nigeria with a holistic programmatic approach.

As Technical Advisor TB Laboratory services, you will lead a team of 2-3 local technical officers. You will work closely together with the Country Director of the KNCV office, the Technical Advisor at central office in The Hague as well as the Nigerian National Aids Control Agency (NACA).

Unit Africa

The Technical Advisor for laboratory services is a staff member of the KNCV and accountable to the Head of the Unit Africa located at central office.

Profile:

As In-country Technical Advisor TB Laboratory services you will fulfill the following responsibilities:

•   Build capacity among implementing and technical partners to ensure up-to-date knowledge on TB laboratory issues.

•   Maintain regular communication with KNCV related laboratory staff, country Project Managers, country consultants and other counter parts in the field to disseminate technical information and to provide an overall technical advisory role to a growing KNCV TB-laboratory strengthening portfolio in Nigeria.

•   Work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to regularly review M&E framework and performance indicators on TB laboratory network development and performance.

•   Prepare technical updates for the KNCV quarterly reports and prepare the relevant sections of the KNCV annual report.

•   Subject to available funding and technical relevance, participate in international meetings and Stop TB Partnership working groups (namely GLI) to increase the global and national visibility of the TB laboratory network, and establish and maintain a network with other stakeholders and partners working in the same technical field.

Who are we looking for?

Necessary:

•   a Master's Degree in Health Sciences or Public Health or higher

•   at least 6-8 years of relevant (capacity building on TB laboratory network strengthening, quality control and conventional culture/drug susceptibility testing)

•   working experience in countries in development or transition

•   at least 2 years working experience with rolling-out GeneXpert MTB/RIF testing technology in a developing country context

Preferable:

•   Experience working in TB laboratory network strengthening in Africa

•   Experience with monitoring and evaluation

•   Experience with implementation research

•   Experience with training and mentoring
