Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is the pioneer and leader of the petroleum industry in Nigeria.

Responsibilities:

The Principal Riser Engineer will be responsible for carrying design/ of riser and mooring systems in current and future projects in the DW offshore area and to offshore SPDC projects and assessment of riser and mooring systems in existing assets. She/He will be part of a group of discipline engineers within the Deepwater Projects Department using professional skills to provide solutions to a range of Technical Structural issues and supply input to projects and plant changes to ensure that fit-for-purpose solutions are provided for the installation. The Engineer will act as guardian of the defined design/operating envelopes of risers and related equipment with respect to offshore structures discipline and participate in the design of current and future projects in the DW offshore area. The position requires working closely with Projects,the offshore Asset Engineering and other disciplines in the floating systems and subsea organisations and to visit the FPSOs and facilities.

Other details include:

• Carry out all necessary engineering analyses,including global analysis,riser analysis,structural Finite Element Analysis,to support engineering design of production,water injection,gas lift and umbilical risers as well as stress/flexjoints.

• Prepare drawings and technical/project specifications and datasheets for riser systems in line with functional requirements as stated in the Basis of Design.

• Carry out installation analysis for risers including pulling-in studies,verification studies for the umbilicals and installation of new I-tube on Hulls.

• Lead or Participate in design reviews,audits and other structural-related reviews. Conduct intra and multi-discipline technical reviews including HAZOPs,Constructability reviews,Reliability and Availability and Maintainability Studies and reviews,etc.

• Demonstrate personal commitment to company HSSE objectives and motivate own team to be HSSE champions.

• Development and compilation of tender/bid packages for riser systems.

• Contribute to the development of young engineers to be able to carry out riser engineering works

• Accountable for work executed by design contractor producing the FEED and Detailed Design of the risers including the multi discipline drawings and procurement and fabrication specifications for the systems.

• Contribute to the development of the procurement and construction contracts for risers.

• Engage with project discipline lead engineers for instrumentation,controls,rotating equipment,materials,HSE/HFE and quality to ensure that that riser/ designs are compatible and integrated with the overall design and is endorsed by the respective discipline leads.

Requirements:

• The applicant should have a B.Sc. in Civil or/Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture and minimum 12 years of experience working in the area of offshore oil & gas development including 7 years of FPSO-related engineering experience.

• Skill in the following areas is required: analysis and design of steel structures, structural dynamics and fatigue, finite element analysis, material selection, corrosion prevention, dynamic analysis of floating systems, hydrodynamics, loading in wind, waves and current, mooring system components, structural dynamics and fatigue, risk and reliability, project planning and economics.

• Proven, broad knowledge of deepwater floating systems design, fabrication, installation, commissioning and operation with depth in riser and mooring systems.

• Working knowledge of SACS, USFOS and COSMOS design/simulation packages will be an advantage.

• Solid background in all aspects of Exploration and Production project execution including design, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and start-up.

• Strong interest in hands-on technical evaluation, estimation of cost, design, construction and installation of offshore facilities.

• A good understanding of Industry standards for offshore structures with the ability to challenge same if needed.

• Proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team as well and to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

• A strong commitment and demonstrable effectiveness in HSSE management is essential. .

• Global mindset and perspective. Ability to work and manage in a diverse, multi-cultural environment. Very good team player.

• Knowledge of key external stakeholders needs and business drivers, including economic, political, environmental, and social issues.
