TWAS-ICCBS Fellowship Program for Developing Countries’ Scholars in Pakistan, 2014

TWAS and International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences are inviting applications for fellowship program to pursue research at postgraduate and postdoctoral level. ICCBS will provide a monthly stipend which should be used to cover living costs, such as food, accommodation, local transportation and incidental illness. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency. The fellowships are tenable at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS). Fellowships are awarded for maximum 4 years (full-time) and a minimum period of 6 months and a maximum period (Sandwich) for PhD programme and for a minimum period of six months to a maximum period of twelve months for postdoctoral programme. The application deadline is 31st August 2014.

Study Subject (s): Fellowships are awarded in the field of Chemical and Biological Sciences. The following areas include organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine, pharmacology or physical chemistry.

Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing research postgraduate (PhD) and postdoctoral level.

Eligibility: Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:

-be a maximum age of 35 years for PhD and 45 years for postdoctoral on 31 December of the year of application;

-hold a master/PhD degree in a field of natural sciences;

-be nationals of a developing country (other than Pakistan);

-must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Pakistan or any developed country;

-be regularly employed in a developing country (other than Pakistan) and hold a research assignment there;

-provide a certificate of good health from a qualified medical doctor;

-provide evidence of proficiency in English.

Scholarship Description: The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) — comprising the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research in Karachi, Pakistan — and TWAS offer fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than Pakistan) who wish to pursue research towards a PhD and postdoctoral fellowship in chemical and biological sciences.

How to Apply: Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from ICCBS when applying, or by the deadline at the latest. Without preliminary acceptance the application will not be considered for selection. Reference letters: Referees must send signed letters as attachments via e-mail directly to TWAS and a copy to the Director of ICCBS. The subject line must contain: ICCBS/PG/candidate's surname. Alternatively, letters can be sent by post in sealed envelopes. Only signed reference letters can be accepted. Applicants to the TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme should send one copy of their application to TWAS only (by email). Please do not send a copy to ICCBS.
