Travelstart, a leading online travel agency in Africa has announced that it has launched its services in Nigeria as it looks to compete with Wakanow.

Already, Nigerians have embraced the new service with traffic to the site increasing by more than 200% in the last month as it offers Nigerian travellers a great set of tools to help them search and buy the travel options that best meets their budget and requirements.

The service, also available in South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Turkey and Kenya, provides independent flight comparisons and bookings between low fare airlines as well as all major international airlines. Also, customers can compare hotel prices and book hotels, car rental and other travel-related services.

Since launch, Travelstart now reports over 100% weekly growth in Nigeria and over 90% of flight bookings made on its site are regional and international bookings. Interestingly, Air Nigeria and Arik Air are currently the most popular airline tickets booked via the service.

The service is currently in its beta stage and plans to integrate more features and functionality in the coming months.

"The plan is to incrementally roll out additional functionality based on market demands to ensure we have the best possible product for the Nigerian online travel audience when we launch the full website later this year", said Stephan Ekbergh, CEO of Travelstart.
