Title: IC4HD Human Development (HD) Fellowships for Developing Countries at IIAS in India, 2013

The International Centre for Human Development is inviting applications for fellowships for developing countries to encourage mid-career professionals (academics, civil servants, and civil society practitioners) for the duration of 3 months. In 2013 year, up to seven fellowships are awarded for pursuing reserach which focus on a well-defined aspect of human development under the theme of social security in the South at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, India. Only citizens of Asia-Pacific region are eligible to receive this fellowship worth of US$3,000 per month. Application deadline is June 23, 2013.

Study Subject(s): The research supported under the 2013 fellowship programme must focus on a well-defined aspect of human development under the theme of social security in the South

Course Level: Fellowship is available for pursuing research programme at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, India, for the duration of 3 months.

Scholarship Provider: The International Centre for Human Development in a partnership with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Scholarship can be taken at: India

Eligibility: Applications are invited from all candidates who fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

-Citizen of a country in the Asia-Pacific region

-Less than 45 years in age

-5-8 years of relevant working experience

- Not a UN staff member or a Indian Institute of

-Advanced Study staff/fellow

Scholarship Open for International Students: Nationals of the countries listed below are eligible to apply in their individual capacity: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cook Islands, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kiribati, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Vietnam.

Scholarship Description: The International Centre for Human Development is a partnership between the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Centre envisions itself as a "think and do" organization that promotes policy dialogue on human development in the Global South and works towards translating human development analysis into action. The IC4HD Human Development (HD) Fellowships aim to encourage mid-career professionals (academics, civil servants, and civil society practitioners) to analyze critical development issues from the human development perspective, thereby contributing to development theory, and identification of applications and policies that put people at the centre of development debates.

Number of award(s): Up to seven fellowships will be awarded in 2013.

Duration of award(s): The IC4HD 2013 HD Fellowships support three month programmes, beginning August 12, which do not involve empirical work with data collection and fieldwork during the fellowship period.

What does it cover? The selected fellows will receive US$3,000 per month. The Fellowship covers the living expenses for the Fellow as well as a return airfare to the country of residence. Free, furnished residential accommodation will be provided at IIAS. The fellowship also envisages the provision of a budget of up to US$1,000 for attendance of a conference/a short course in India, if relevant to the fellowship theme.

Selection Criteria: The other selection criteria, which will be considered to shortlist applications, include:

-Educational qualifications; post-graduate degree desirable

-Exceptional creativity in choice of topic

-Value addition or new direction to the human development concept, methodology, analysis, application and policy relevance

-Track record of past accomplishments

-Time needed for completing the work.

Notification: Only selected candidates will be informed by July 1, 2013.

How to Apply: Applicants whose native language is not English are expected to have the ability to write and converse fluently in English. All candidates must complete a formal application in English, including:

-Application form (available online)

-Summary statement of the objectives of the proposal

-Project proposal, not exceeding 1,000 words, which does not involve fieldwork with data collection

-Curriculum vitae

-Two references (email and telephone number should be indicated). One of the referees should be the current supervisor.
