Asustek Computer Inc., maker of Asus-branded computers and tablets, will no longer be selling Windows RT tablets, according to The Wall Street Journal.

"It's not only our opinion, the industry sentiment is also that Windows RT has not been successful," Asustek Chief Executive Jerry Shen told the Journal.

Shen added that the lack of compatibility with standard Windows applications also played a part in the weak sales of the Windows RT tablets. The company did take a write down for the tablets, but did not specify.

Microsoft is, naturally, still committed to the RT version of the operating system, which runs on ARM-based processors. NVIDIA, Dell and even Nokia are reportedly planning to start or continue Windows RT hardware production, though with the exit of Asus, it's anyone's bet how long those plans will remain firm.
