IEC, in collaboration with Glencore Xstrata offers scholarships for international students in the field of energy studies at University of Queensland. Scholarships are available to eligible domestic* and international applicants wishing to study the MES program. The next program intake is scheduled for Semester 1, 2014. These scholarships are awarded to applicants who clearly demonstrate potential to become leading decision makers in the energy sector.

Eligibility:-Scholarships are available to eligible domestic* and international applicants wishing to study the MES program. The next program intake is scheduled for Semester 1, 2014 (February).

-Please note that the scholarship is only available to study the Master of Energy Studies. It is not available for the Graduate Diploma/Certificate programs or for any other program offered by The University of Queensland or any other institutions.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must also apply for the MES program and meet the program entry requirements:

-An undergraduate degree from an internationally-recognised institution;

-Three to five years practical experience in a related field; and

-English language skills as demonstrated by an officially-recognised test of English language proficiency: UQ language requirements.

Scholarship Description: The IEC, in collaboration with Glencore Xstrata, awards scholarships to a small number of talented individuals who have been accepted into the Master of Energy Studies. These scholarships are awarded to applicants who clearly demonstrate potential to become leading decision makers in the energy sector.

Duration of award(s): -Glencore Xstrata Energy Leader Scholarships fund partial tuition fees for a maximum of 24 units, to be completed over 1½ years for full-time students, or three years for part-time students, including field placement/s. Deferment of studies due to unforeseen circumstances and implications for scholarship funding will be assessed individually.

-International students on an Australian Student Visa are required to complete the program within the duration specified in the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). Requests for extensions to the period of study or temporary suspension of the scholarship must be made in writing to The University of Queensland for review on a case-by-case basis.

What does it cover? The scholarships are available to domestic and international students and include partial tuition fees (AU$22,000) to undertake the Master of Energy Studies program (part-time or full-time study mode).

Selection criteria: Typically, successful scholarship candidates will possess an excellent academic record and several years of relevant professional experience. The IEC selection panel will use the following selection criteria when assessing scholarship applications:

-Academic record: an excellent academic record and a likelihood of success in further study;

-Professional record: relevant employment experience, achievements, membership of professional bodies and professional references;

-Commitment to integrated and interdisciplinary approaches to energy studies;

-Leadership qualities including collaboration and team work, flexibility, initiative, communication skills, integrity and vision through professional, educational, community and other achievement; and

-Potential outcomes: the likelihood of positive impacts on the individual and the energy sector from participating in the MES program.
