The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) will monitor this year's general elections in the country, the Kwara State Secretary of CAN, Reverend Cornelius Fawenu has said.
He spoke last Friday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital during the combined convocation of the 2011 universal week prayer.
Rev Fawenu added that the association is "presently in contact with the Independent National Electoral Commission in a bid to find out the requirements for monitoring the next general elections and the approval to do so."
The CAN secretary said that consistent and effective prayers for Nigeria would make the forth-coming elections peaceful, free and transparent.
"All this effort will ultimately count if the Christian community participates actively in the electoral process by sensitizing and mobilizing members to actively participate in the voter's registration exercise commencing from January 15th, 2011 and members keep their voter's cards intact," he said.
