Gunmen yesterday killed two police officers, burnt a police station and destroyed a primary school and GSM masts in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe state.Also killed were Keran Bulus, 29, a staff member of Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Fika and two civilians who came from Bauchi.
She holds a National Certificate of Education from College of Education Pankshin Plateau state. It was gathered that the gunmen, numbering 30, stormed the town and attacked the affected areas when people were about to come out for morning prayers.
A resident told our correspondent on phone that the incident occurred around 4:00am almost the time people are preparing for morning prayers (subh)
"We heard multiple blasts and gunshots some minutes to dusk prayers, we all prayed indoors and later discovered that the central police station was burnt, MTN and Etisalat masts were also destroyed along with a primary school that was reduced to ashes" he said.
Confirming the incident, Police Commis-sioner Patrick Egbuniwe said "The two police men were killed in an effort to repeal the attack, and the assailant escaped with some weapons".
But the police chief said he did not have detailed information on whether the JTF reinforcement was able to make any arrest due to difficulty in contacting DPO in charge the area as a result of network problem.
Residents in the area have started fleeing to Potiskum where many people migrated from in the last ten days for safety.
