Newly deployed minister of state for power, Zainab Kuchi, says the electricity sector in the country has sunk to levels of annoyance among Nigerians. "The sector's image evokes anger in the minds of some Nigerians," she told the ministry's management in an address.

She called for power officials to re-evaluate their "acts of omission or commission over the years that have brought the sector to this level."

Kuchi added that sections of the public were starting to appreciate "noticeable improvements in electricity generation."

She urged Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to ensure that the current generation capacity do not relapse but rather "to promote and support all that is needed to make the power sector a veritable and ingenious national and international brand as we have seen in other countries".

"We must all sit up to hasten the processes that will make transmission to other areas faster," Kuchi noted.

In her first formal address to power ministry officials since taking over from former minister of state for power Darius Ishaku, who was moved in exchange to the Niger Delta ministry, Kuchi said insisted she was ready to start work because the administration was curious to "re-ignite the productive activities in our manufacturing sites so as to reduce the intimidating unemployment rate in the country."

She promised strong strides "to eliminate all impediments that stunt the desired growth of the sector" and called for synergy to "break the jinx".
