Title: JTF kills 4 Boko Haram members in Gashua raid

HEAVY gunfire was heard yesterday in Gashua area of Yobe State when operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) raided a hideout of suspected Boko Haram members and killed four of them.  

Security sources and residents said the house where the suspects hid was located at Abujar Amare area in the outskirt of the town.  

"The explosions and shootings, which started around 3am lasted for about three hours. We all remained indoors till day break," a local said.

JTF spokesman, Lieutenant Eli Lazarus, said in a statement that they acted on information made available to them that some of the assailants that unleashed terror in Potiskum and Fika towns had secured a hideout in Gashua.

"Our men who were deployed to the area overpowered the terrorists, killed four and arrested four others," he said.

He listed items recovered in the house as including 3 AK47 rifles, 42 rounds of ammunition, 1  Turaya phone, 13 different mobile phone sets, 8 laptops, 18 sim cards, 21 wrist watches and 1 CD plate. "We are now analyzing all the things we recovered," he said.

The spokesman also shed light on the Fika attacks on Sunday which led to the killing of a police officer and a woman.

"We have recovered a Hilux van in a bush which was abandoned by the terrorists," he said.

He denied that some of the Fika attackers had been killed in a bush.
