The body behind the index, the Australia-based Institute of Economics & Peace, said in a statement (http://www.visionofhumanity.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/GTI_English.pdf)that since the 2003 Iraq invasion the number of terror attacks worldwide had increased fourfold.

The institute produced an interactive map (http://www.visionofhumanity.org/globalterrorismindex/), showing the extent to which different countries were affected.
