-Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, a First or a high Upper Second Class Honours undergraduate degree, or equivalent qualification, and/or a Master's degree in Psychology or a related discipline.

Scholarship Description: Studies of social cognition in animals have tended to focus on identifying the existence of particular cognitive abilities rather than assessing the causes and consequences of individual variation in these abilities. This is despite the fact that the latter approach has the potential to throw light on the functional significance and evolutionary history of cognitive traits. Moreover, studies of individual variation in cognitive abilities are particularly pertinent given recent research highlighting that, in animals as well as humans, personality differences have an important role to play in determining the behaviour of individuals. This raises the interesting possibility that variation in cognitive skills may depend on personality.The School of Psychology at the University of Susintercourse is one of the largest centres for the study of psychology in the UK and an excellent environment in which to pursue a doctoral degree.
