The research position covers research expenses, travel and subsistence costs and cost of (PhD) training. In addition to this it also provide a limited fund for equipment. The Research Grant is available in the field of water and sanitation, Renewable energy and Soil-related research areas. Up to 20 research positions are available. The Programme may also provide support of up to £1,243,000 over a five year period. Application Deadline is 4 April 2013.

Eligibility:-Applicants must be based in one of the eligible sub-Saharan African countries (http://royalsociety.org/uploadedFiles/Royal_Society_Content/grants/schemes/Royal_Society-DFID_Africa_Capacity_Building_Initiative/2012-07-25-Eligible-countries.pdf)(PDF) or the UK. In order to act as a principal investigator (PI), applicants must:
-have a PhD or have extensive research experience at an equivalent level
-have a proven track record of training students at Master's and Doctoral level
-have a proven track record of publishing in both national and international journals
-be based in the respective countries at the time of the application
