PORT HARCOURT— OGONI in Rivers State have appealed to the Federal Government to come to the aid of victims of the recent flood disaster that submerged various communities in four local government areas in the state.

In their separate comments, yesterday, Chairman, Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council and President, Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional rulers, HRM King Godwin Giniwa, Gbenemene Tai Kingdom, and Chief Priscilia Vikue, said the government should help by providing accommodation for those whose houses were washed away by the flood.

The traditional ruler and his subjects, who spoke on behalf of Ogoni nation while presenting relief materials to victims of the disaster at Ahoada East Local Government Area, said there was urgent need to help rebuild the houses of the victims.

Similarly, Justice Peter Akere (rtd) of the apex socio- cultural organisation of Ogoni, KAGOTE, said they were in the area to identify with victims of the flood disaster in the four councils that make up Orashi region in the state.  The areas are Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Abua Odua and Onelga councils.

He said they had observed that houses in several communities were swept away by the flood, noting that in the spirit of brotherliness, they had come to cushion the pains of those affected.  The items donated were bags of rice, garri, tubers of yams and palm oil.
