Verone Mankou is the designer of A smartphone and tablet said to be the first designed by an African company and runs Google's Android software.
During the third annual
Tech4Africa conference in Johannesburg last month, Mankou stressed that even though the devices were manufactured in China due to cost reasons, the design and engineering was entirely African. He also added that unlike other companies that seem to be marketing foreign products by branding them locally, his company see the increasing desire among African communities to support homegrown products.

His big plans include supporting students by producing cheap tablets as soon as next year. The current devices retail at
$170 (£105) for the smartphone and
$300 (£185) for the tablet.
