Castro gave Betis the lead in the 44th minute at Romareda when he utilised a pass from the Nigerian midfielder Nosa Igbiebor and finished low past Zaragoza goalkeeper Roberto.

Molina gave them the second goal in the 13th minute (2nd half) when he made the most of an error by defender Alvaro Gonzalez before Francisco Montanes pulled a goal back for Zaragoza 13 minutes from time.
