Market Complexity: An increasingly challenging external environment is placing higher importance on robust controls and compliance programs:
• United States of America's law on Bribery and Corruption which brings severe penalties to defaulters,
• British Law – following US stance on penalties
• Implication of non compliance on Corporate reputation can be catastrophic
• Recession and resulting financial pressure increases risk to fraud / bribery
Purpose of Role:
• Embed a culture of Compliance & Ethics in the company
• Liaise with the Diageo Global Compliance and Ethics team, leading the implementation of global initiatives in the market including the Annual Certification of Compliance
• Continuously seek opportunities to further strengthen compliance in our organization, and monitoring the effectiveness of the compliance program
• Provide specialist compliance advice
Leadership Responsibilities:
The role holder is an inspiring leader in the business and a key member of the Controls, Compliance & Ethics team, leading the Compliance and Ethics agenda for the organization. The role has strong working relationships with the Diageo Global Compliance and Ethics team, Guinness Leadership Team and the Guinness Extended Leadership Team. The role has one (1) direct report.
Key Accountabilities:
• Drive training and education on Compliance for all employees; in partnership with the Human Resources team and other subject matter experts
• Drive compliance and embedding of global policies, local market policies and relevant external regulatory compliance working through process owners and subject matter experts
• Design and deliver an effective awareness and communication program to employees and relevant 3rd parties on all compliance matters and ethical behavior
• Ensure the breach management process is effective liaising with subject matter experts, local policy owners, legal and security and HR, and the global compliance and ethics team
• Proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks across the organization
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required:
• Graduate caliber with professional qualification in Legal, Audit, Accounting or Risk Management
• 5 years experience in compliance preferably in a mid/big sized FMCG/Consumer Goods company
• Strong knowledge of internal controls is an added advantage
• Strong interpersonal relationship and facilitating skills
• Strong Influencing and coordinating skills
• Excellent problem solving and analysis
• Ability to constructively challenge current and proposed business practice
• Well-developed knowledge of business processes
• Ability to prioritize when faced with conflicting demands
• Proven ability to manage projects and facilitate business change
Barriers to Success in Role:
• Inability to build and motivate others to consistently deliver great performance
• Inability to understand Controls Audit & Risk Management process, Compliance strategy, Risks and business needs and develop plans to deliver against these
• Inability to build relationships with a diverse range of internal and external partners and stakeholders and work collaboratively across the organization
• Inability to work in a professional and structured manner while being able to respond with agility to unforeseen challenges / opportunities at short notice
